WASHINGTON, D. C. – The U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has relaunched an expanded Crash Preventability Determination Program (CPDP).

Commercial drivers with an eligible crash that occurred on or after Aug. 1, 2019, can now submit a Request for Data Review (RDR), the agency said.

Such submissions must include the police accident report and other supporting documents, photos, or videos through the agency’s DataQs website.

In July 2017, the FMCSA announced a Crash Preventability Demonstration Program to evaluate the preventability of eight categories of crashes.  And in August 2019, it proposed a new CPDP with a streamlined process.

The new program, which also expands the types of eligible crashes, is set up based on the comments received in response to that proposal, the agency said.

The crash types eligible for participation in the program are listed here.
